La Escandella

A Company & Product of the highest level

Ever since Noe and Juan Roman Brotons founded Ceramica Roman Brotons for the manufacture of ceramic floor tiles in 1964, this dynamic company has grown and adapted to the changing times, becoming an important manufacturing group. Soon after it’s founding it created Ceramica la Escandella for the specialist manufacture of interlocking building blocks. Later, Commercial la Escandella was formed to distribute a wide variety of materials for the building trade. Today, after many years of working hard and striving to improve the quality of its products and customer service, the La Escandella Group today is comprised of two unglazed roofing tile plants and one for glazed products, boasting the largest production capacity in the world while staying true to the ceramics tradition of its Founders.

Why La Escandella?

La Escandella brings together the most advanced technology and installations on the market. A fully automatic process, which gives rise to one of the largest productions in the world.

The clays are carefully selected and stored for perfect preservation. Daily checks make sure that they remain in the best possible state to be used. The clay is dry Atomized and this is the key to the quality and the texture of the roof tiles. This process provides us with clean clay of unbeatable texture and even color, without the impurities and chalk chips that cause expansion cracks in conditions of high humidity or frost.

Being equipped with its own co-generation plant has allowed it to achieve more energy-efficient operations, with kilns and dryers that are cleaner –burning and more ecological. In addition to being powered by natural gas, one of the least contaminating forms of energy available, kilns have self-cleaning systems that prevent gases from being given off into the atmosphere. There are also suction filters that collect the dust released during the grinding process. And all the waste generated is recycled on-site. Moreover, all products are fired at the same temperature, which ensures that they have technical and aesthetic features that are completely homogeneous, regardless of where they are placed inside the kiln.

At the peak of quality

La Escandella roof tiles have achieved the maximum EU quality-control rating for fired clay roof tiles. Indeed La Escandella was the first non-French firm to be AFNOR certified and it also complies with the Spanish UNE EN-1304, French NF-EN-1304, German DINEN-1304, and Dutch KOMO I-O NLBSB NBRL 1510 standards, as well as quality standards in Singapore, Portugal and Poland and others are in the process of approval. Laboratory controls are carried out every day in its premises to check the clay and product during every single stage of the manufacturing process so as to ensure first class quality at all times. These controls are supervised externally by the ITC (Ceramic Technology Institute). With this standard, factors such as flexural strength, class 1 impermeability and type C frost resistance are certified. The obtained values apply to all roof tiles manufactured by La Escandella.
